Carbon Mild Steel Bar

Carbon steel bar is a common material for brackets, fittings, shafts, pins and other fabricated or machined parts. It offers a practical starting point where the job does not require stainless steel or a more costly alloy grade.

The range covers different needs. Low-carbon grades suit many welded and formed parts. Medium-carbon grades are often chosen for components that need greater strength or a hardened working surface. The right choice depends on what the finished part must do.

Dexter Steel supplies carbon steel bars with cutting and specified processing. For manufacturers and fabrication shops, suitable stock can keep material costs manageable. The grade and supplied condition should also suit the machining, welding or heat treatment planned after delivery.

More Details

We can quote carbon steel bars against your drawing or material specification. Our grade range includes options for general fabrication and more demanding machine parts.

GradeTypical reason to choose it
1018 / 1020Parts needing machining, forming or welding
1045Shafts and pins with specified strength or hardening needs
1050Parts needing greater hardness after suitable heat treatment

Tell us if the part will be welded or hardened later. We can check the supply options around those steps. A higher-carbon grade is not automatically a better choice for a welded part.

Full Bars or Pieces Prepared for Your Shop

We offer full bars and cut lengths. We can also quote drilling, slotting and tapping from your drawing.

For repeat parts, cut pieces can save saw time and reduce handling. Holes or slots completed before delivery can remove further work from your shop.

We confirm the blank size and agreed processing in the quotation. If the ends need facing later, the cut length can include that allowance.

Pay for the Finish You Need

We can review hot-rolled or cold-drawn stock for your order. Hot-rolled bar can keep costs down when you will machine away the outer surface. Cold-drawn stock can reduce finishing work where closer starting dimensions are useful.

For outdoor parts, we can also quote galvanizing with the agreed fabrication work. Carbon steel needs suitable protection where moisture can cause rust.

Send us the required grade, dimensions and quantity. We can quote the material and processing together.
