H13 is used for forging dies, extrusion tools and die-casting inserts. It suits tools that repeatedly heat during use and cool between cycles.
Its value is resistance to cracking from those temperature changes, together with useful strength when hot. This makes it a different choice from cold-work grades bought mainly for wear resistance.
If an existing die cracks early, the steel is only part of the review. Cooling, tool shape and heat treatment can also affect its working life.
Match the Supply to the Tooling Job
For demanding dies, the drawing or project may require remelted H13 or additional inspection. We can review those requirements when quoting, rather than treat every H13 enquiry as the same order.
For simpler tooling, extra requirements should have a clear purpose. They can add cost without solving the actual production problem.
Dexter Steel can provide cut blanks and review drilling or other specified processing. Cooling holes and working faces should follow the drawing, with enough material left for heat treatment and finishing.
